Description: Einstein@Home searches through data collected by the LIGO and GEO600 gravitational wave detectors for evidence of periodic sources (such as spinning neutron stars), which would be the gravitational equivalent of pulsars. Einstein@Home was launched as part of the World Year of Physics 2005.

Description: Surface science calculations using Classical Dynamics. In contrast to other projects, Leiden Classical allows volunteers, students and other scientists to submit their personal calculations to the grid. Each user has his own personal queue for Classical Dynamics jobs. In this way students have used the grid to simulate liquid argon, or to test the validity of the ideal gas law by actually doing the simulations through the grid.

Description: LHC@home studies the stability of the orbits of particles traveling around the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a particle accelerator built at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, in Geneva, Switzerland. When it switches on in late 2009, the LHC will be the most powerful instrument ever built to investigate the properties of sub-atomic particles.

Description: Astropulse is a new type of SETI. It expands on the original SETI@home but does not replace it. Astropulse listens for broader-band short-time signals as opposed to the narroband signals searched for in SETI@home. Since 2005 this site was also used as a Test site for SETI@Home.

Description: We will combine the spectral coverage of GALEX, Pan-STARRS1, and WISE to generate a multi-wavelength UV-optical-NIR galaxy atlas for the nearby Universe. We will measure physical parameters (such as stellar mass surface density, star formation rate surface density, attenuation, and first-order star formation history) on a resolved pixel-by-pixel basis using spectral energy distribution (SED) fitting techniques in a distributed computing mode.

Description: The theory simulations that have been running as Test4Theory since 2011, were the first of a series of physics applications running on the LHC@home platform. Soon the theory simulations will be followed by more simulations from the LHC experiment collaborations. These applications exploit virtual machine technology, enabling volunteers to contribute to the huge computational task of searching for new fundamental particles and physics at CERN's LHC.

Description: Simulation models of the transmission dynamics and health effects of malaria are an important tool for malaria control. They can be used to determine optimal strategies for delivering mosquito nets, chemotherapy, or new vaccines which are currently under development and testing. Such modeling is extremely computer intensive, requiring simulations of large human populations with a diverse set of parameters related to biological and social factors that influence the distribution of the disease.

By running the model thousands of times we hope to find out how the model responds to slight tweaks to these approximations - slight enough to not make the approximations any less realistic. Description: Research, education, and outreach in seismology. This is a 'non-CPU' intensive project. The project was formerly known as "QCN Alpha" or "QCN Alpha Test" but is now an active 'live' project. An accelerometer is needed to run this project. Some computers have this built in (i.e. Apple Macbook laptops & IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad laptops). For others, a USB attachment is necessary. The aim of the project is to detect seismic events via attached (internal laptop or external USB) accelerometers; which are then reported to the system servers at Caltech.

The project reappeared in January 2006 on a different server to act as a test stand for another LIGO-related project, called Interactions in Understanding the Universe (I2U2).
